Art at Malsis
“Every child is an artist. The problem is
how to remain an artist once he grows up”
Pablo Picasso
1881-1973
Art is a popular subject at
Malsis. We encourage students to explore and
develop their creative potential using a variety of media.
Pupils develop their skills so that they feel confident
approaching various art themes. For the more enthusiastic, apart
from the usual lessons, there are also break time and evening
sessions. The Art program follows a broad and balanced
course with several cross curricular references linking it
with other subjects. Pupils are offered a wide range of artistic
experience in both two and three-dimensional work as they develop a
mastery in a range of tools, media and processes: drawing, painting
printing, collage modelling and construction.
We encourage students to think creatively, to
experiment and explore and make discoveries of their own. Lessons
are planned according to age and abilities, and follow a logical
sequence in a particular discipline. A great emphasis is placed on
drawing skills as a means of broadening visual experience and
developing visual literacy. Several visits to museums and galleries
are organised during the year to expose the pupils to other artists’
and craftsperson’s ‘work. It is Malsis
‘policy to proudly display the pupils’ work
around school giving pupils a
sense of pride in showing their own work to the rest of the
school.
