The aim of the science curriculum at Malsis is to capture the imagination of the children from the early stages. To ready them for life in an increasingly scientific and technological society and to prepare them for their qualifying exams into their chosen school, whether it be at 11+, 12+, 13+ or Public School Scholarship. The Programme of Study is based on the National Curriculum and followed through the Science Syllabus from the ISEB.
Children in the early years and Year 1 study Science with their class teacher and a member of the department teaches Year 2 in the Pre-Prep.
From Year 3 onwards, the children are taught in
one of the two specialist laboratories. These rooms are well
equipped and they offer the opportunity to carry out a wide range of
investigations and experimental work. An interactive whiteboard in
the Senior Laboratory enables the children to use and experience the
very good scientific resources that are available on line. We are
also lucky that the
The children are encouraged to develop skills that are integral not only to the subject but also to life:-
Asking questions Interpreting data.
Observing.
Communicating.
Making hypotheses.
Recording.
Predicting.
Fair testing.
They are also expected to develop attitudes that will aid them in all subject areas:-
Curiosity.
Tolerating uncertainty.
Respect for evidence.
Children at Malsis view Science as an exciting and practical subject. They enjoy the challenges that they are set and they rise to them well.
