Chapel Service and Spiritual Life

The Chapel at Malsis lies at the centre of the school’s spiritual life. It is here that regular services and assemblies are held during the week as well as those marking the special days in the Church calendar. Malsis offers a warm welcome to children of different faiths, all of whom attend Chapel.

One outstanding feature of the Chapel is the beautiful stained glass window made by John Piper.

Visiting heads and other representatives from senior schools throughout Great Britain come to Malsis on most  Saturday mornings to preach. The children participate actively in all services with readings and singing.

The boys’ Chapel Choir and the girls’ Chamber Choir, each with its own choirmaster/mistress, perform regularly at Chapel services. Regarding it as a special honour to be elected for membership of the school choirs, younger children develop their singing skills in the training choirs.

Parents and other family members and friends are most welcome to attend all services in Chapel. On Saturday mornings after Chapel service coffee is served for visitors in the Headmaster’s study, providing them with an opportunity to have an informal chat with other parents and staff and often with our visiting preacher.

Malsis has a close connection with the beautiful 14th century Kildwick Parish Church, some 2 miles from Malsis. The choirs sing at the annual advent service held in the Church and and occasionally give public concerts there . The Vicar of Kildwick Church, the Rev Robin Figg also preaches in Chapel.

A small prayer room next to the Chapel offers children the opportunity to take a few moments out of their busy days for private prayer.
