School History

Malsis School was founded by Albert Henry Montagu in 1920.  The first day of term was 14th May.   Throughout the 1920's the golf course was laid out, and modifications were made to accommodate classrooms for the children and staff accommodation.

In the 1930's mains electricity was installed to the main building, the tennis courts were laid out and the shooting range was built.  Bernard Gadney was appointed as Headmaster.

In the 1940's Mr Gadney was elected a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS).

Throughout the 1950, much construction work took place, providing new bedrooms, washrooms and classrooms.  In 1956, the Malsis School Trust was formed.

The 1960's saw further developments, with an Appeal Committee set up under the chairmanship of Mr Jack Hanson for a swimming pool, gymnasium, theatre and chapel, followed by the construction of Garden House.  In the mid-60's Mr Gadney retired and Mr Gerald Watts appointed as Headmaster.

Further construction work took place in the early 1970's with the opening of the cricket pavilion, marking the 50th anniversary of the school.  Mr Watts moved on to another Preparatory School and Mr John Clark was appointed as Headmaster.  In the later part of the 70's a Music Centre was created, an Art and Craft Centre established and changing rooms were expanded.

During the 1980's a new teaching block was opened, the sports hall was built, a new art room was built and new bedrooms created.

In the 1990's Mr Clark retired and Mr Norman Rowbotham appointed as Headmaster.  Garden House was opened as a co-educational Pre-Preparatory Department.  Towards the later part of the 90's Mr John Elder was appointed as Headmaster and saw the first intake of girls into the School.

In to the Year 2000 to 2003, further developments saw the introduction of a Pottery Room, new classrooms for the Pre-Prep Department and the construction of a giant Tree House.

In 2004, Mr Christopher Lush was appointed as Headmaster.  Garden house was modernised to provide larger classrooms and a RAP Tree was installed in the School grounds.
